For the majority of patients presenting to a breast clinic, the diagnosis is benign i.e. non cancerous. Patients may present with breast pain, nipple discharge or even lumps, which after suitable assessment, turns out to be benign.
Some common benign breast diseases are fibroadenomas, cysts, cyclical or non cyclical mastalgia and duct ectasia. Depending on the clinical features, these women may need medical management, surgery or even just reassurance and follow up. This decision is taken after the mentioned triple assessment and discussion with the patient.
